It was the logic behind it: not just avoiding animal-derived materials, but using materials that would otherwise have gone to waste. There’s something very coherent in that which convinced me from the start.

Not all Belén Dols bags are made from palm fibre. I also work with apple leather, which has different properties and a different look. But when I see them together in the same collection, they make sense to me. Two materials born from what others throw away. Two ways of doing the same thing: a bag worth having, without any animal paying the price.

Every product page specifies exactly which material that particular bag is made from. If you’re not sure which one suits you best, write to me.

Thanks

Un abrazo,

Belén

Frequently asked questions

Is palm pruning fibre a new material?

Not exactly. Textile and leather-goods applications of plant fibres have been developing for decades. What’s relatively new is their presence in the quality fashion market. It’s a solution that already exists, that’s been tested, and that hardly anyone knows about yet.

Is it different from apple leather?

Yes. They’re two different materials with different properties. Palm fibre has a more organic texture and a slightly more rustic look. Apple leather is smoother and closer to conventional leather. On Belén Dols bags, every product page specifies which material it uses.

Where do the pruned palm trees come from?

Alicante, Spain. The Spanish Mediterranean coast has a very significant presence of palm trees that need regular pruning. That’s the waste that gets used.

Is palm fibre water-resistant?

It has reasonable resistance to moisture, similar to other treated natural materials. It’s not designed for heavy use in the rain, but it handles contact with water without any problem.

Can I see which material a bag uses before buying it?

Yes. Every product page on the website specifies the material. If you’ve got any further questions, I can answer you directly.

When I tell someone that some of my bags are made with palm pruning fibre, there are two typical reactions.
